Portrait drawing of Sasi Mitra

Hello There!

I'm Sasi Mitra, a Project Associate at Indian Institute of Science. I completed my Bachelor's and Masters from Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Tirupati, and I was an FRT Scholar at Australian National University. I am broadly interested in Fluid Dynamics in Astrophysics, and how turbulence impacts other astrophysical processes (Star Formation, Stellar Structure and Evolution, etc.)

Beyond astrophysics, I find myself trying to appreciate the technical aspects of many different topics, as long as there's someone enthuastic to talk with.

Career Timeline

A few milestones from my academic and builder journey so far.

  1. May 2026 - Present

    Project Associate at IISc, Bengaluru

I am working with Prof. Prateek Sharma (Department of Physics, IISc) as a Project Associate I. The project involved is trying to improve accuracy of low-resolution ISM simulations with sub-grid physics implemented using Machine Learning.

  2. Aug 2025 - Feb 2026

FRT Scholar at Australian National University

Worked with Dr. Amit Seta (RSAA, ANU) for my Master's thesis, studying the statistical properties of 3D reconstrocutions of the Interstellar Medium.

  3. Dec 2021 - May 2026

    BS-MS Physics at IISER Tirupati

Aside from coursework, I had a chance to work with Dr. Amit Seta (RSAA, ANU) on two projects. The first project, done as a semester project, made use of Minkowski Functionals to analyze the morphology of Magnetic fields in the Small-Scale Turbulent Dynamo, which resulted in a publication in MNRAS. The second project was my Master's thesis, and was undertaken in part at ANU.

  4. 2012 - 2021

Sri Sri Ravishankar Vidya Mandir, Bangalore North

Completed my middle and high school education here.
